Let the Adventure begin
So this all began in April 2017 - I came home from work, a dumpster had arrived out front and our bathroom had been demolished. My immediate thought was “hey I should blog about this” a more rational thought would probably have been "where am I going to shower for the next 12 weeks?". That night I sat down and created this blog and then continued to hit “extend free trial for 7 days” until well today. Fast forward to today, 4 months later, and the reno is done. The countless construction workers gone. The nightly nightmares of whether the white I had chosen was white enough without being too white have disappeared. The tiles have been installed, the walls have been closed back up and yes the shower is up and running. The summer is nearly over and my favorite season is about to begin. The things that have remained here is my husband, myself, and our beautiful new home (oh and the dust that still manages to escape the war zone of a basement that we have yet to tackle).
For many years I had toyed with the idea of a blog. I liked the concept of having a place to store my thoughts, the countless recipes I try, my interior decorating ideas and just everyday life but where to begin? For a while Pinterest was my go to, which l still love to explore but I always kind of felt like I needed something more. I thought the renovation would have been a great place to start with countless topics for me to cover and a good time for me to take the plunge and just do this blog. But anyone who has ever done a renovation knows that just surviving everyday in what looks like a combat zone is a battle in itself. Then there was the problem about having people actually read my writing. I have never been good at grammar or punctuation whether it was in my native Danish, or English or German (lets not mention the 6 years of failed Spanish) it has just never clicked for me (did I mention run-on-sentences? because i am also very good at those). I am a perfectionist in all things in life so having people actually witness my weakness day in and day out just made me very uncomfortable.
Yet despite all of those endless excuses i am finally here. I have taken the plunge and jumped into the blogosphere.
I aim to make my blog about my everyday life. A lot will focus on food as a home cooked meal is always on my agenda for every day of the year. My husband always jokes about how many hours I actually spend in the kitchen for just the two of us but for me its just a nice way to relax after a long day at work. Its also a great time for me to throw on a show I have DVR’d or catch up on Danish TV (side note - tusind mange tak DR1 for allowing broadcasting outside of Denmark). I am by no means a masterchef but just enjoy sitting down to a home cooked "healthy" meal where I know what ingredients have gone into the dish.
Interior decorating/inspiration is another huge part of my life and therefore will be featured on this blog. As I mentioned we just finished a huge house remodel where we gutted the main bathroom and kitchen, sanded and stained all the floors, added a closet to the master bedroom and added central AC. In addition to some minor things like painting, removing carpets/tiles, making some openings larger or squaring off arches around the house. I have a very Scandinavian/mid century modern/mixed-with-hygge design aesthetic and therefore gravitate to whites, blacks, browns and anything neutral really (you should see my closet). However my goal with this blog is also to try something new. So pops of color will be incorporated whenever i am feeling a little experimental. Currently those experiments have led to a lot of house plants which i'm very excited about and James is convinced bring spiders because according to him they live in plants.
Traveling will also play a part on this blog as James and I love to travel. We tend to go to Denmark a lot as my whole family lives there but we also want to see and explore the world. So many things to see...so many adventures to take...but so little time and not nearly enough money for everywhere we want to go. Yet our goal is to make experiences a priority so we'll see how that goes.
A potential area I would want to include as well is fitness. I used to be really good at it. As in I went every morning before work and then went for a long walk after work (primarily to scope out any new house listings) but then life came in the way and I just sorta stopped. I love Yoga but am currently not near a great studio (which is kind of a lie because I could jump on a bike and be at a studio in 15mins...i am very good at excuses). On the other hand James is very good at prioritizing exercise so he is essentially my motivation. Mixed with my healthy cooking we are practically a dream team right? just kidding, as James likes to say "you have yet to meet a chocolate chip cookie that you didn't like" and he could not be more right.
So that is essentially our blog in a nutshell. I hope that you all will be back for more.
